Carbonated Beverages and Osteoporosis

In the Framingham Osteoporosis Study released in October of 2006, researchers looked at the relationship between soft drinks and bone mineral density.  Bone mineral density measurements indicate bone strength.  It is one measure used to determine an individual's amount of osteoporosis.

The study found a definite relationship between drinking cola more than three times a week and having weaker bones.  The more cola a woman drinks, the lower her bone density.  Though the study looked only at older women, it is reasonable to think that cola would effect bone mineral density in men also.
