Prepare for Cold Season

Remember, colds are generally caused by viruses and will last about a week if treated and about 7 days if untreated.  Your best defense is PREVENTION.

Start Now:

    1. Get plenty of rest. Try for 8 hours a night. Naps are also great.  If your body feels tired, give it some rest.

    2. Get proper nutrition .  Plenty of fruits and vegetables.  These vitamin filled foods help keep your immune system functioning at its best.

    3. Drink plenty of fluids .  Your body is working all the time to take proper care of you.  Increasing fluids not only helps the body by providing energy but also helps in flushing toxic substances from the body.

    4. Take Vitamin C:  Thousands of studies have proven how important Vitamin C is to our immune system.  Take about 200mg-500mg two or three times a day.  Taking a larger dose only once a day is NOT as effective.  Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin and will be flushed totally from the body in about 6 hours. Vitamin C should be taken on a routine basis, not just at the first sign of a cold.

At the First Sign of a Cold take these supplements:

    1. Echinacea.  Echinacea boosts our immune system.  It gives the body extra fighting power.  Take 300mg three times a day.  Echinacea should NOT be taken routinely.  Start taking at the first sign of a cold.  You can continue taking as long as cold symptoms persist, but no longer than two to three weeks.  After that time its effectiveness declines.

    2. Zinc Lozenges:  Zinc lozenges work at the back of your throat and your nasal passages.  Take the lozenges about every 2 hours.  Do NOT take Zinc any longer than 2 weeks as it can alter other minerals in the body.

Hopefully, yours can be a "cold" free season.
